The absence rule

To keep your "continuous residence", you must not spend more than 180 days outside the UK in any rolling 12-month period during your qualifying period. Only whole days count — the day you leave and the day you come back are not counted as days abroad.

Applying early

You can apply up to 28 days before you complete your qualifying period. Apply before your current visa expires.

Work out your dates

Usually the start date of your first visa on this route, or the date you entered the UK on it.

Used only to check if you need the Life in the UK test. Nothing is sent or saved.
